April 5, 2004 Regular Meeting

Called to Order 7:38 p.m. by President David Weary           

All officers and members present

 

Minutes of March 1, 2004 approved as read.

 

Treasurer's report:  Madge Rogaczewski

                · Reported a balance of $ 1289.92

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS / CORRESPONDENCE

Ray Garwacki Jr. announced receipt of:

· A letter from Supervisor Antonovich in response to the Councils concerns regarding the wind generator project on Sierra Pelona ridge. No application has been filed with Dept of Regional Planning. Mr. Garwacki indicated that private projects on BLM Land must go through Los Angeles County Dept of Regional Planning approval process.

· A letter from City of Santa Clarita regarding progress of TMC Mining case. Favorible ruling will enable the City of Santa Clarita to participate in the pending case in U.S. District Court.

 

PRESENTATIONS

· A representative of Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority presented a review of the North County Combined Highway Corridors Study. Plan will involve improvements to I-5 and SR-14 as well as implementation of SR-138 Hi-Desert Highway Corridor.

· Larry Grooms representing Assemblywoman Sharon Runner and Norm Hickling discussed problems with the  rehab on Eagle Butte. Arrangements have been made for April 19 Planning Meeting to include representative of the State Dept. of Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation to investigate the issue.  Michael Hughes Moved to send a letter to Mr. Feinberg of the State Dept. of Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation with cc to appropriate agencies expressing the seriousness and urgency of this situation, and asking for immediate remedies.-Motion Carried Unanimous. Ray Garwacki Jr. to draft letter.

 

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS

Planning & Coordinating   Chair Dick Morris 

· There has been no response from Superior Renewable Energy to our letter.

· Regional Planning hearing on 20th concerning Weary & Associates tract map for 10 homes on 13 acres Santiago Rd. north of Soledad Cyn. 

· Upcoming Regional Planning Commission hearings:

                2 lots on 4.6 acres Soledad Cyn. Rd. / Aliso Cyn. - April 6.

                6 lots on 7.5 acres Crown Valley Rd. between Aliso St. and Broomall St.

· The question of Area Plan, Santa Clarita Valley or Antelope Valley. Bill Daniels presented information demonstrating some factors and encouraging participation in the Santa Clarita Valley Area Plan. This decision must be made soon. Bill Daniels Moved to table-Motion Failed  Consensus: this is a community issue and needs more input from the populace. Information will be published in newspapers, including statements from both sides and inviting readers opinions.   

 

The Chair called a Special Meeting to be held April 26 , 7:30 p.m. Acton Community Center for the purpose of reviewing community input and making a decision regarding the Santa Clarita Area Plan.

 

The Chair dispensed with remaining Committee Reports due to time constraints.
