Called to Order 7:35 p.m. by President David Weary

Donald Jordan absent, all other officers and members present.

Minutes of February 4, 2002 meeting approved as read.

Treasurer Leona Sexton - Reported a balance of $ 521.46

ANNOUNCEMENTS / CORRESPONDENCE

· Ray Billet reported on L.A. County Board of Supervisors hearing Feb. 26. The Supervisors voted 5-0 to deny the Transit-Mixed Concrete mining project. Mr. Billet also submitted a draft letter of appreciation to the city of Santa Clarita for all their efforts in promoting opposition on this issue.

· Leona Sexton read a letter from Linda Harbeson to Michael Antonovich requesting that Gillespie Av. Between Soledad Cyn. Rd. and Crown Valley Rd. be renamed Gonder Wy. In honor of retiring Principal Margaret Gonder.

PRESENTATIONS

· Clarissa Filgioun presented outline of current North County Combined Highway Corridor Study being conducted by L.A. County Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) ,

· Larry Richardson, representing North Star Minerals, Inc. Presented a review of their clay mining operations in the Angeles National Forest off Aliso Cyn Rd. Public hearing for a 5-year renewal of their surface mining permit (SM00-21) is scheduled for April 10. Larry extended an invitation to visit the site.

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS

Planning & Coordinating Chair Dick Morris

· Representatives of Adelphia Cable gave an update report on their progress in upgrading the Acton Cable system.

· Application by Nextel Communications for a cell site at 34500 Rough Rd (CP01129) Public Hearing scheduled for Mar. 5. Dick Morris will investigate.

Finance, Ways and Means Chair Leona Sexton -Nothing to Report

· Georgia Cushman discussed the possibility of getting some funds from motion picture producers doing filming in Acton. She and David Weary will follow-up.

Bylaws Chair Bill Daniels -Nothing to Report

Trails, Open Space & Recreation Chair Ray Billet -Nothing to Report

Publicity Chair Donald Jordan -No Report

SPECIAL COMMITTEE REPORTS

Beautification Chair Georgia Cushman

· Reported on alleged dump site on Hubbard Rd. L.A. County Dept. of Public Works has cited the owners and a letter was sent Feb. 27 requiring corrective action. From the Gallery, Lillian Smith indicated she had received a letter from the property owner after publishing a photograph in the Agua Dulce-Acton Country Journal. The letter attempted to mitigate the condition, and expressed displeasure with the publishing of the photo and article.

· Dick Morris announced the next meeting of the Illegal Dumping Task Force for Mar. 13. Will be discussing dates for annual Acton clean-up days.

Drainage and Roads Chair Georgia Cushman -Nothing to Report

Santa Clara River Steering Committee - Liaison Ray Billet -Nothing to Report

Community Club Liaison Dick Morris

· First of season Gymkhana and breakfast Mar. 3 was a success, next one will be held April 7.

· A group from Lions and VFW have suggested a system of networking for local organizations.

· Youth Art Show scheduled for May 19.

Acton Chamber of Commerce Liaison Michael Hughes

· Working on getting meetings together to implement combined Acton / Agua Dulce picnic / fund raiser event.

· From the Gallery, Lynn Sickler announced the annual Chamber St. Patricks Day mixer to be held Mar. 14, 5:30 p.m. at Thousand Trails.

From the Gallery, Jim Dusick reported on:

· Legal processes involved in the Transit-Mixed Concrete project.

· Problems with apparent inaccuracies in Community Standards District map presented at recent Association of Rural Town Councils meeting.

· L.A. County interest in building a library for Acton/Agua Dulce. They would like to work with a committee including representatives of: Acton and Agua Dulce town councils, chambers of commerce and civic associations as well as the Friends of the Library group. Prop. 14 funds may be available. Ray Garwacki Jr. will represent the Acton Town Council.

OPEN FORUM

· Residents of Peaceful Valley are still having a problem with the drug rehab located on Eagle Butte. They would like to take action to amend county codes to disallow such operations in a residential area. David Weary will raise the issue at his next meeting with Sherry Lasagne.

· David Weary displayed the map of Acton Community Standards District prepared by L.A. County.

· Greg Smith expressed concerns resulting from the recent attack on an Acton schoolgirl by a street vendor. Leona Sexton has discussed vendor problem with Dep. Doepking. Apparently, only legal option dealing with unlicensed vendors is to issue citation.

· Dick Morris Moved to send thank you letter by Ray Billet (ref. Announcements and correspondence) Ray Garwacki Jr. suggested add "we" before "also" and "thank you" after "also". Motion Carried w/additions (unanimous)

The Chair announced the next regular meeting to be held April 1, 2002, 7:30 p.m. Acton Community Center .
