August 7, 2000 Regular Meeting

Called to Order 7:41 P.M. by President David Weary

Bill Daniels, Dick Morris, Calvin Oglesby absent - All other officers and members present.

Minutes of July 17, 2000 meeting approved as read.

Treasurer Leona Sexton reported a balance of $ 1282.76.

ANNOUNCEMENTS / CORRESPONDENCE

The Chair announced receipt of :

· A notice from Southern Calif. Edison regarding California Alternative Energy rates, and outreach program.

· Agenda for August 8 meeting of L.A. County Board of Supervisors.

· Notice of Public Hearing Calif. High-Speed Rail authority in Sacramento Aug. 16.

· Two copies of the BLM Record of Decision on Transit-Mixed Concrete mining project.

· Communication from City of Santa Clarita concerning proposed amendments to General Plan. Meetings tentatively set for Aug. 9 / 10.

· Association of Rural Town Councils meeting tentative for Aug. 30, Acton Community Center .

The Chair announced that there are still some Camera Raffe tickets available.

Leona Sexton announced a drive to be held at the LDS church Aug. 19th to benefit 7 yr old local resident Derek Finger who is in need of a bone marrow transplant.

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS

Planning & Coordinating David Weary reported :

· Metrolink is unable to light the flag at Vincent/Acton Station. Alternate plan is to move pole to ground level and have flag(s) removed at sunset.

· Association of Rural Town Councils meeting to be held Aug. 30 at Acton Community Center. Michael Antonovich may attend. Some discussion of publicity and refreshments. Ray Billet Moved that Leona Sexton purchase refreshments amount not to exceed $50-Motion Carried (unanimous)

Finance, Ways and Means Chair Leona Sexton

· Digital camera raffle to be held at Sept. 18 Regular Meeting.

Bylaws Chair Ray Garwacki -Nothing to Report

Trails, Open Space & Recreation Chair Ray Billet -Nothing to Report

Publicity Chair Chrys Hamper - announced her resignation as Publicity Chair.

Utilities Chair Doug Barnett -Nothing to Report

Community Standards Chair Calvin Oglesby -No Report

SPECIAL COMMITTEE REPORTS

Beautification Chair Chrys Hamper

· Arrest made in conjunction with hazmat dumping near Sierra View Apts.

· Fire Dept. has cleaned up hazmat dump site at Cedral / Dorama.

· Roadways cleaned are: Sierra Hwy. from Shannondale to Santiago, Crown Valley Rd. , Escondido from Puritan Mine to Syracuse.

· Will start work on Soledad cyn. east from Bootlegger.

Drainage and Roads Chair Bill Daniels -No Report

Rural Town Council Liaison Calvin Oglesby -No Report

Santa Clara River Steering Committee Liaison Ray Billet

· Has been fielding several inquiries concerning Transit-Mixed Concrete Mining project.

· Some discussion of Santa Monica Conservancy acquisition plans for Santa Clara River basin.

Community Park Committee Liaison Leona Sexton -Nothing to Report

Community Club Liaison Dick Morris -No Report

Election Committee Chair Ray Billet

· Presented copies of press release and candidate application. The Chair suggested changing "entry fee" to "filing fee" where applicable. Change will be implemented.
