The Acton Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1980 by Steve Garrett to assist County firefighters and to reduce response time in remote areas. It currently consists of six members and two vehicles, including a 4x4 water tanker (pictured left) and a 4x4 pickup truck. The Department monitors the fire scanner for calls in district 80 and 81 for house, car and brush fires, but does not perform rescues, and recommends always calling 911 first in any fire emergency. The Department receives no compensation, but operates solely through private contributions.
